My style is capturing joy
My specialty is photographing children in action. I love to see the excitement in a child’s eyes and a huge smile on their face when they are truly happy. To capture this joy, I keep the photo shoots fun & relaxed.

Real smiles are the best!

I also love the calm moments…

My childhood in pictures
When I flip through my childhood pictures, my favorites are of us having fun
& being ourselves. I want to capture the same joy with my photography.

Photographing happy babies
For newborn sessions, my main priority is keeping
the baby and new parents happy.
I come to you, so you don’t have to make a trip with the baby.

I’m on the baby’s schedule
If they want to sleep, I photograph a sleeping baby.
If they need to eat or be changed, I take a break.

What a session includes
1. A disc of approximately 35-60 pictures in both color and black & white

2. Approximately 1-2 hours of photography. Kids are unpredictable, so I do not try to stick to a firm timeframe.

3. Up to 6 people

4. Several hours of processing the pictures

Photobucket

The joys of having the disc
I always include the disc of images, because I want you to get the most enjoyment possible from your pictures.

1. Make all the prints you want.
You can get professional quality prints at www.mpix.com for as little as 19 cents.

2. Upload your pictures to share on facebook, myspace, flickr, or any other social network.

3. Create photo projects like calendars, scrap books, cards and more.

4. Enjoy your pictures in a digital picture frame.

Choosing a location for you FUN family photography session

My goal of the photography session is to not just capture images of your family, but also a moment in time. Choosing the right location for your photography session can make your pictures that much better.

Photography sessions at home
The home is a great place to record memories. I love looking back at our old family photos and seeing all the items in the background that were a part of our daily lives. Sessions at the home can also be more relaxed because the kids are in their own environment & it’s easy to take a snack break or do clothing changes.

These pictures were taken in a family’s yard.

When you are home, the pets can join in the fun.

These pictures were taken around a beautifully landscaped apartment. When she is older, the baby girl can look back and see what her first home was like.

Here are some more backyard pictures. It was easy for this young girl to run & play in her own backyard. I think she will also enjoy looking back at these pictures and seeing what a fun playground she had at her first home.

Sessions at locations with special meaning
When you pick a location your family enjoys, you will ensure a fun day out and have pictures that record a place you love.

These maternity pictures were taken around Duke Campus, where the expecting mom is a graduate student. They make for a nice record of her life while carrying her baby.

Sessions at locations that are new to your family
Going to a brand new location can also be fun for pictures, because I will capture your family’s experience exploring a new place. You might just find your new favorite weekend spot.

The NC botanical gardens in Chapel Hill are a great spot for family pictures. There are many interesting pieces of art work and lots of pretty plants. They are much smaller than the Duke gardens so it requires less walking to get from spot to spot, which is nice on hot days or with young children.

This is a storytelling chair. It is a wonderful spot for family portraits.

There is a cute little cabin in the gardens & several goldfish ponds.

Another fun location for child photography is the NC Museum of Life & Science in Durham. The kids can just play & explore the musuem. It’s much more fun than spending the morning in a photography studio.

Choosing the best time for your session

For indoor sessions, try to pick a time where the location would not be as crowded.

For outdoor sessions, avoiding crowds is also helpful, but lighting is even more important. The first and last hour of sunlight are the most flattering for outdoor portraits. The light is soft and does not create shadows on the face.

I am able to work in difficult lighting, but it’s always simpler to just avoid it.

You can look up sunrise & sunset times here, if you are interested.

It’s also important to work around the kid’s schedule. It could be difficult to get them to cooperate for pictures after their bedtime. My top priority is keeping things fun & stress-free for your family so I can work in difficult light, if necessary.

What to wear for your family photography session

Bright, bold & deep colors look great in pictures. Avoid busy patterns, tiny stripes & logos.
Photobucket

For family pictures, you do not need to dress identically. Just make sure the colors look nice together.

Accessories are great
